Ascend through the Sirimon route, known for its gradual climb and beautiful forests, and descend via the dramatic Chogoria route, famed for its valleys, waterfalls, and lakes. Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise and take in breathtaking views of Africa’s second-highest mountain. This diverse route offers rich landscapes, varied ecosystems, and an unforgettable trekking challenge for adventurers.

Day 1: Nairobi to Sirimon Gate – Judimere Campsite (3,300m)
Drive from Nairobi and trek 9km (3–4hrs) through indigenous forest. -
Day 2: Judimere Campsite to Shiptons Camp (4,200m)
Trek 14km (6–7hrs) through moorland to the base of Mt Kenya’s highest peaks. -
Day 3: Shiptons Camp to Simba Tarn (4,612m)
Short, steep ascent for acclimatization. Lunch and overnight at Simba Tarn. -
Day 4: Simba Tarn – Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) – Chogoria Gate Campsite (2,950m)
Early morning summit attempt, descend to Chogoria Gate via Simba Tarn (full day). -
Day 5: Chogoria Gate to Nairobi
Short walk, transfer to Chogoria town, and return to Nairobi.
Itineraries
Day 1
NAIROBI – SIRIMON GATE 2650m – JUDIMERE CAMPSITE 3300m
After breakfast at 8:00 am leave Nairobi with a shared shuttle van to Sirimon gate where you will start your hiking to Judimere campsite. Trek from Sirimon gate to Judimere campsite is a distance of 9km that take a bout 3-4 hours trekking, passing through the forest of indigenous trees. Dinner and over night in the tent at Judimere Campsite.
Day 2
JUDIMERE CAMPSITE – SHIPTONS CAMP 4200m
Wake up at 6:00am in the morning, pack your belongings, and then have after breakfast at 6:30am. Leave Judimere campsite with a picnic lunch exactly at 7:00 am to shiptons campsite a distance of 14 km a journey that takes 6-7 hours. Shiptons camp is located at the base of the highest peaks namely Batian and Nelion. Dinner and overnight in the tent at Shiptons campsite.
Day 3
SHIPTONS - SIMBA TARN 4612M
After breakfast leave for a short sharp ascent to Simba turn campsite for lunch, dinner and overnight stay
Day 4
SIMBA TARN – LENANA SUMMIT 4985m - CHOGORIA GATE CAMPSITE 2950m
Wake up very early in the morning exactly at 3:30 am to prepare your self and the take pre breakfast at 4:00 am. Leave Simba tarn at 4:30 am to attempt the summit a journey that takes 1 ½ hours to reach the summit. Point Lenana is the third highest peak in Mt Kenya and the only one that can be reached by trekking. On a clear sky day, you can see Mt Kilimanjaro on southern side and Indian Ocean shining as the sun is rising. After enjoying the summit, descend down back to Simba tarn camp for full breakfast. proceed further down to Chogoria gate campsite. This is where you will have lunch and spend your fourth night.
Day 5
CHOGORIA GATE – CHOGORIA TOWN - NAIROBI
After early breakfast walk down for a few kms then take a vehicle to Chogoria gate. Transfer back to Nairobi.
